Expo playful modernism "Het Speels Modernisme"- Ganshoren 1958
ARCHistory, Urban.brussels and the culture department of the municipality of Ganshoren invite you to come and visit a pop-up exhibition devoted to Ganshoren-based architect Raoul J. Brunswyck (1924-1979). This illustrious exponent of playful modernism, also known as the Expo 58 style, has built some fifty dwellings in Ganshoren.
In the fifties, architect Raoul J. Brunswyck, soon collaborating with his colleague Odon Wathelet, enthusiastically embraces the daring and colourful style of playful modernism. From April to September 2022, in Ganshoren, you can find out more about this architectural style, which was brilliantly showcased at the 1958 Universal Exhibition.
The programme includes a pop-up-exhibition in Brunswyck’s former architectural firm, Brunsweek-ends, social media challenges, residents' stories and guided tours.
A map lets you discover some forty buildings designed by Brunswyck and Wathelet in the northwestern part of the capital, such as Jette, Ganshoren, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Koekelberg and Molenbeek.
