Extension of the exhibition “The Alpha Plan” and availability of the archives
The exhibition “The Alpha Plan”, organised in collaboration with perspective.brussels in the frame of the Heritage Days 2024, which was to end in December 2024, has now been extended until 28 February 2025!
For the first time, this exhibition reveals the original documents of the Alpha Plan project, as well as several maps from the preliminary surveys.
These documents, preserved by Urban, enable us to retrace the modern project for Brussels, which was to accompany the ongoing transformation of the capital into an international business centre.
The preliminary project, drawn up between 1962 and 1967 by the urban planning architects of the Alpha Group, is a fascinating testimony to its era. Although it was never approved, this document shows what faith the designers had in the ability of modern architecture to reshape the urban landscape.
New: check out the Alpha Plan online!
As a complement to the exhibition, but also to preserve it permanently, Urban is offering you exclusive access to the panels of the Alpha Plan via its digital media library: Media Urban.
These digitised documents, accompanied by a detailed contextualisation and extracted from the content of the exhibition, allow you to explore the history of this ambitious project directly from your own home.
This new resource sheds a unique light on the urban development of Brussels, based on previously unpublished historical documents. This is the perfect opportunity for anyone with a passion for architecture and urban planning to immerse themselves in this pivotal period in our capital’s history.
