Urban is delighted to invite you to (re)discover Brussels’ natural heritage in its various forms.
Starting this autumn from October 6th until November 3rd with dozens of nature activities for everyone and all over Brussels: a great opportunity and a fun way to dive into the autumn.
Did you know?
The first inventory campaign dates back to 2002. Since then, Urban and its partners have examined around 5,150 trees throughout the Brussels Capital Region. Today, the still growing database contains around 7,500 listed trees, and around 3,500 of those are in the legal inventory. The most remarkable trees are regularly put forward to be included on the conservation list.
“Renature Time!” is an invitation to discover the wealth of green spaces in Brussels and to encourage nature in all its forms in parks and nature reserves, but also in gardens and streets or on walls and balconies.
Bruno Campanella, Urban’s natural heritage specialist, will share very specific explanations with you during three activities that will take you on walks focussing on trees in a constricted environment and a walk focussing on remarkable trees.
All visits are free
But what is a remarkable tree?
In the Brussels Capital Region, a remarkable tree is designated as such after a diagnosis by Urban’s specialists. This diagnosis is based on the tree’s heritage value, which must itself meet a set of criteria defined by Urban. These criteria are both scientific and aesthetic (e.g. observed size, rarity of the species, isolation criterion, etc.).
