#materiality2024
For its fifth edition, the Urban Archaeology Days will take place from June 14th to 16th 2024 as part of the European Archaeology Days.
The theme chosen by Urban this year, ‘materiality’, emphasises the importance of being aware of urban materials and their environment as resources for the city of tomorrow. Archaeology is therefore playing an increasingly central role in the design of the living spaces of the future.
Whether you're a history fan or just curious, Urban Archaeology Days is the event for you.
Visit the laboratories of Urban, the Institute of Natural Sciences and the VUB. Discover the abbeys of Forest and La Cambre or the priory of Rouge-Cloître. Stroll around the Grand-Place district to admire the facades of the houses rebuilt after the bombardment of 1695. Explore a house in the rue de la Tête d'Or from cellar to attic, and admire the roofs of the Saint-Nicolas church. Wander through the city centre in the footsteps of the river Senne, push open the door of the lapidary repository of the Coudenberg Museum...
An event to enjoy with your family, friends or colleagues and a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of archaeological research and heritage!
