International Symposium on Young Heritage (1975-2000): Book of Abstracts available!

We are pleased to present the Book of Abstracts resulting from the International Symposium on Young Heritage (1975-2000).

On February 6-7 2024, VUB Architectural Engineering and Urban co-hosted the International Symposium on Young Heritage 1975-2000 in Brussels.

This symposium marked the first concerted effort to internationally share knowledge about young heritage, a category that is often overlooked due to the lack of historical distance, leading to major renovations and demolition. The international influx of presenters and attendees at the symposium not only underscored that young heritage is at stake everywhere, it also showcased a collective eagerness to generate and share knowledge to better understand this threatened heritage.

Moreover, not only a geographical gap was bridged, also knowledge intersections between different disciplines were searched for to build further on aspects of value assessment, policy instruments, building materials and the conservation and restoration of young heritage.

→ Today, we are pleased to present the Book of Abstracts, featuring contributions from all presenters during the event.

We would also like to thank Origin Architecture and Engineering for guiding the participants through the emblematic site of La Maison Médicale (UCL, Brussels), and to Innoviris for co-funding this event.

A special word of thanks also to all our esteemed speakers for their contributions to this successful gathering!
