SAVE THE DATE: International Symposium - Art Nouveau

"Bringing Art Nouveau heritage back to life: theory and practice in restoration – From the Venice Charter to the Turin Declaration"

Urban and the Réseau Art Nouveau Network (RANN) are pleased to invite you to the international symposium “Bringing Art Nouveau heritage back to life: theory and practice in restoration – From the Venice Charter to the Turin Declaration”, that will take place in Brussels on November 27th and 28th.

The symposium marks an important milestone for the RANN, as it celebrates its 25th anniversary this year !

The theme is the restoration of the Art Nouveau architectural heritage, remembering that 2024 will also mark the 30th anniversary of the publication of the UNESCO Declaration of Turin, and aiming also to reflect on the evolution of restoration theory and techniques from the publication of the Venice Charter to the present day, the symposium will also be an opportunity to shed light on the advantages and limitations of both documents in the current context, especially considering the numerous sustainability challenges of today, through concrete examples, acknowledging that their implementation across Europe has not always been systematic.

→ This initiative is in line with Urban's aim of highlighting Art Nouveau over the longer term by highlighting more specific themes, stimulating debate and developing ideas on the links between Art Nouveau and the current challenges in architecture, urban regeneration and heritage management.
