At the start of 2025 Urban presented its Diversity Plan 2025-2026, aimed at creating a work environment where everybody feels welcomed, valued and supported. One year later we look back on the efforts we put in last year regarding the four strategic domains of our plan:
- A. Recruitment and selection
- B. Onboarding and career
- C. Internal communication
- D. External positioning
This update offers an outline of the actions that were undertaken in 2025 to render our organisation more inclusive, accessible and respectful for all workers and the broad public that is in contact with Urban.
A. Recruitment and selection
Urban wants job interviews to be conducted in a fair way.
- In the future, positions will be better illustrated, with information about the interviews and possible movements.
- A system was devised to make sure that juries are always composed of both men and women.
B. Onboarding, integration, training and career
New and current workers receive extra support.
- Coaches of new colleagues received clear instructions about respect and diversity.
- New workers received a training about diversity and inclusion.
- Important HR information on the intranet (such as illness, part-time work or retirement) has been updated.
C. Internal communication
Urban has been working on a warm and respectful working atmosphere.
- Our workers could follow language courses and take part in meeting-up events for Dutch and French speakers.
- There were activities that revolved around diversity, for example trainings and Pride events.
- We have launched an inclusive calendar so that everybody knows what activities and trainings are planned.
D. External positioning
Urban also wants to show the outside world that it takes diversity to heart.
- Five articles were published on the website covering topics such as decolonization, the Pride Week and diversity in the public domain.
- During the Pride Week the rainbow flag was put up on our buildings.
A look ahead
2025 was a year of construction, reinforcement and cooperation. Foundations were laid, processes have been optimised and awareness was raised. In 2026 we will continue this path, by developing new initiatives and focusing on a working environment in which diversity, respect and inclusion are key features.
Urban keeps on striving to become an organization that fully plays its role in a diverse Brussels society, with actions that inspire, connect people and help things move forwards.
