EXTENDED → Exhibition: "Vision of Art Nouveau"

For Brussels, 2023 was the year of Art Nouveau.

Although the year has come to an end, there are still several projects, initiated as part of last year's programme, to be discovered in the coming weeks.

Such as the piece of artwork created by artist Régis Bour at the initiative of Urban and supported by the Anderlecht Cultural Centre - Escale du Nord and the municipality of Anderlecht, which, from May 2024, will adorn an as-yet untouched wall in the Parc de la Rosée, managed by Brussels Environment.

Entitled "Vision of Art Nouveau", this is a mural whose design is inspired by "densely packed urban landscapes using an Art Nouveau vocabulary." It will be installed on the wall enclosing the Parc de la Rosée site in Anderlecht, opposite the Hotel Van Belle.

Parc de la Rosée features a series of murals, created in 1999-2000 under the direction of Manuel Escobar Lehmann, evoking one of the neighbourhood's urban legends: "The Serpent of the Senne". To keep this work in line with the common theme that characterises the park, the artist was careful to incorporate the shape of the snake into his design, marking out his intervention.

Another unique feature of this project is the inclusion of a participatory component, involving local residents through workshops that are open to all. Since January 2024, Régis has been organising and supervising these workshops, with the support of Escale du Nord at Parc de la Rosée (see schedule below for upcoming workshops), at École de la Providence as well as with the non-profit organisation Les Pissenlits.

The aim of these workshops is to enable everyone to join in, leave their mark and make a contribution to the work. They provide an opportunity to discuss Art Nouveau and find out how local residents view this artistic movement, said to be the preserve of an elite. Participants are invited to draw Art Nouveau "patterns" and plants, which will be considered in the mural's final design. At the end of these workshops, several models will be produced, representing the future mural on a reduced scale.

→ Extended exhibition: from April 5th to 7th as part of the "ItinérArt - Parcours d'artistes d'Anderlecht"

→ In the Hotel Van Belle, chaussée de Mons 39, 1070 Brussels

To showcase the artistic expression of our residents, reveal the results of our workshops and present the model of the mural, we invite you to an exhibition organised in collaboration with the neighbouring Hotel Van Belle.

Contemporary creations as part of "Art Nouveau Brussels 2023"

This work is part of the "Art Nouveau Brussels 2023" programme, curated by Paul Dujardin, which aims to promote Art Nouveau in the Brussels region through activities including the production of contemporary creations in public spaces, in connection with this emblematic artistic movement.

The work on display here is a response to the call for collaboration launched by Urban and the non-profit organisation Patrimoine & Culture to Brussels' cultural players and associations, and is supported by Brussels Environment.
